The Courage to Teach

Read in this Article;

What does it take to be a good teacher?

Why is it not easy?

What is the secret ingredient to success?

It takes so much work and so much time and effort and much more to become a Teacher. There has to be sufficient time spent mastering the Language from all aspects, this can be done through educational systems such as universities and schools, followed by specialised education such as passing courses like CELTA, or DELTA,.. to specialise in how to teach and transfer your knowledge to another person.

But there is a secret in plain sight, even after taking all these steps successfully, you need one big rare ingredient to make the potion work!

COURAGE !

But, What is courage?

Courage is the art of manipulating your fears to function as motivation and produce positive outcome instead of paralysis it naturally wants to create.

And it gets harder, As a Teacher, you have to find courage twice;

Once when you want to start Teaching, because it takes courage to give, to compress, modify, and beautify what you know into a package that can be used by another person. It takes courage for a Teacher to stand in front of a classroom (or her laptop), confident and tall, and start giving!

Twice, for each and every student. We’ve all had students who are afraid, afraid to make mistakes in speaking another language, afraid of being made fun of by other students, afraid to miss the deadline to their language exam,… But as Teachers, we show them their fear, tell them how to turn it into motivation, and succeed.

There is so much more into Teaching to just transfer, Teachers not only need to know as much as they can learn, but also they need to know how to “Give” the “Gift” in a way that the receiver can actually put to use.

Here is where the difference shows between a good Teacher and one that wonders every day if this job is worth it.

Find your Courage first and then your learners, Hold on to this precious courage, and I promise, it will be worth it, to play a role in someone success, to give the right push to help someone change their life for the better.

To Conclude, being a Teacher is hard because you need to do everything twice, and right. Once for yourself and next for your learners.

This is why I believe you can be SuperTeachers!

I don’t know about you but turning fears into motivations and producing results for a living, everyday, is Superhero work!

Let’s make this a conversation!
